The same logic extends to the chain.
The position
A principal holds five million in USDT ERC-20. The route they are entering requires TRC-20. The contract on the receiving side is structured for TRC-20. The wallet provider on the receiving side will only accept TRC-20.
Most principals at this point do one of three things.
They move the USDT to an exchange to bridge between chains. The exchange flags the size, runs a compliance review, takes between three and twenty days to release, and the conversion gets executed at whatever the rate happens to be by the time they get round to it.
They try to find a swap counterparty themselves. The chain they end up with is a broker chain with no real principal on the other side, the wallet shown is an omnibus, and the swap never settles.
They give up and try to renegotiate the receiving structure to take ERC-20. Which sometimes works, but more often does not, because the receiving side has its own reasons for wanting TRC-20.
There is a fourth option that almost nobody plans for.
A direct institutional swap. Principal-to-principal, fixed price at signing, settlement direct from one chain into the receiving wallet on the other chain. No exchange. No broker chain. No omnibus.
The institutional desk I am now a direct partner with handles exactly this.
- USDT ERC-20 to USDT TRC-20 (or the other direction)
- USDT to USDC at fixed price
What to consider
- BTC native to USDT on the chain you specify
- USDT to BTC on the receiving wallet you specify
- USDC same as USDT in both directions
Over five billion in monthly volume. More than 350 institutional counterparts, including US BTC and ETH ETF issuers. Backed by VanEck, Valor Capital and Hack VC. Noncustodial. Principal-to-principal.
The standards on the swap are the same standards on everything else I do.

If the chain or asset form of a current position is the bottleneck, this is the route that solves it without losing your shirt on spread or your timing on settlement.
